Win AD Google Hangout: Improving ‘Political Skill’ for Personal and Organizational Advancement

Date: Thursday, February 4th, 2015

Watch this Hangout to learn how you can improve your ‘political skill’ for application in fundraising, marketing, on- and off-campus constituency engagement, job interviews and even student athlete recruiting. The authors of Political Skill at Work: Impact on Work Effectiveness, Pamela L. Perrewé and Gerald Ferris, define political skill as ‘the ability to understand others at work and to use that knowledge to influence others to act in ways that enhance one’s personal or organizational objectives.’ Personal, professional and social adeptness can significantly impact your effectiveness in ‘ideal selling’, communicating a shared vision, advancing organizational goals and even reduce personal stress.

Pam and Jerry discuss the findings of their book and cover topics such as:

  • How to assess and improve your own political skill
  • Specific tactics to succeed in job interviews
  • How you can apply these skills to specific athletic department goals (marketing, fundraising, leadership, etc.)
  • Strategies for organizational improvement of political skill
